Die Besichtigung ist kostenlos. Die Plantage wird heute als Hotel genutzt, und ich denke auch sehr gerne zum Heiraten verwendet. Auch die ehemaligen Sklavenhäuser gehören zum Hotel und sind zu Cottages umgebaut worden. Man kann hier gerne eine Stunde verbringen und etwas durchs Gelände schlendern. Das Anwesen ist von Felder umgeben und auf einer Seite wird das Anwesen nur durch einen Damm vom Mississippi getrennt.

Oak Alley Plantation
Neben der Boone Hall Plantation gilt die Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, ungefähr 1 Stunde von New Orleans, zu einer der schönsten Plantagen Amerikas. Die „Grande Dame“ der Great River Road, beeindruckt mit einem prächtigen Südstaatenherrenhaus sowie einer traumhaften Eichenallee. Die ehemalige Zuckerrohrplantage versprüht auch heute noch den Charme und die Eleganz des alten Südens und man wähnt sich auch hier wie in einem Filmset von „Vom Winde verweht“. Leider wurde der 1939er-Film-Epos damals komplett in den Filmstudios von Los Angeles gedreht (als Inspiration für Tara diente übrigens Jonesboro in Georgia), aber man darf ja noch ein wenig träumen…
Stattdessen wurde auf der Oak Alley der Vampirklassiker von Anne Rice „Interview mit einem Vampir“ gedreht, in dem Brad Pitt alias Vampir Louis zuhause ist. Auf einem der Zuckerrohrfelder der Plantage entstand zudem die Anfangsszene aus „True Detective 1“, in der unter einer alten Eiche die Leiche einer jungen Prostituierten gefunden wird und Rust Cole (Matthew McConaughey) und Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson) die Ermittlungen aufnehmen.

Although many hauntings tend to be a result of fear and pain, in the case of the Don CeSar Hotel, the spectral sightings have a far less malevolent reason for sticking around: love. According to the hotel's website, the Don CeSar, also known as "The Pink Palace," was a mainstay for "distinguished celebrities such as Clarence Darrow and F. Originally opened in 1928 by Thomas Rowe, the hotel itself is said to be a "monument" to Rowe's love, a young woman who was whisked away from him by her parents years earlier. Gephyrophobia is the fear of crossing a bridge. Although a bridge does not have to be particularly terrifying for someone with gephyrophobia to fear it, the Sunshine Skyway Bridge near Tampa, FL, certainly is. This particular bridge has a collection of horror stories attached to it that are enough to make anyone consider taking the long way around.
In 1980 a freighter accidentally struck part of the bridge, causing several cars and a Greyhound bus to tumble into the water. On top of the freak accident, 200 people have jumped from the tallest point of the bridge, resulting in their death. Some travelers say they hear whispers along the bridge; others see people walking on the edge. East Martello Fort in Key West is home to Robert the Doll, on display in the fort's museum. Robert took the name of his owner, Robert Eugene Otto, who henceforth became known as Gene. Gene would blame his bad behavior on the doll, and the two were together until Gene's death in 1974.

When over 100,000 people are buried in a cemetery, you can expect a few souls to stick around. Florida's Key West Cemetery is no stranger to the supernatural, including disembodied voices and unexplainable lights. Among the supernatural entities, a mysterious woman occasionally appears to scold visitors who sit on gravestones or in some way disrespect the interred.
