1. Transfagarasan, DN7C, Romania

1 day / 71 miles / 2 hours, 12 minutes

The Transfăgărășan in Romania was famously named by Top Gear as the world’s greatest driving road, with Jeremy Clarkson praising its extraordinary combination of corners and mountain scenery. Built in the early 1970s as a military route across the Făgăraș Mountains, the road spans about 90 km and includes numerous viaducts, tunnels, and culverts, with the 884-meter Bâlea Tunnel at its summit. The southern section offers sweeping curves through forests and along Lake Vidraru, while the northern side features dramatic alpine switchbacks and open mountain views that create the road’s most iconic scenery.
